Poppytalk Spring Colours Week: Friday, White

Today I had some rare time to stroll around my little downtown area. I wandered into one of my favorite shops, Prairie. There is always a lot to take in and see, it's a well-styled shop. But today, I noticed the white doorknobs on the dressing rooms.

I love the weathered wood all around the store.

Afterwards, I discovered a new shop but that will be a secret for now because I hope to be bold and interview the owner for my blog! I had a great time getting out with my camera this week thanks to Poppytalk!

Have a wonderful weekend friends...

Poppytalk Spring Colours Week: Thursday, Lavender

Whew! It's been quite a busy day between working a bit on my day off, shopping and prepping for teaching cooking to the Noodle's class tomorrow, picking up the right size of Little League pants, buying some new clothing in size M (8) because certain little boys are growing and aging before my very eyes, cooking & cleaning and hosting a playdate complete with a glorious mess, well this Mama is wooped!

Speaking of a glorious mess, with no knowledge whatsoever of Poppytalk or Spring Colour Weeks, one of our guests today showed up perfectly dressed for Lavender Thursday.

She must love lavender because it found its way into her birthday card for her daddy.
Serendipity!

Poppytalk Spring Colours Week: Monday, Green

Good day all! This is going to be a beautiful, colorful week thanks to the annual Poppytalk Spring Colours Week. Today is all about the green.

This is my first bundle of spring asparagus. I think it's the perfect way to start off the week.

I will be posting a few more green photos in the Flickr pool later today, but in the meantime, take a little break and go check out what everyone else has already submitted.

Autumn Colours Week: Red Thursday

Canned tomato spears! Who knew?! Also, that is the yummy lunch I made yesterday and shared with my sweetie who was working from home. Lastly, a vintage typewriter is still on my wish list. :)

There's only one more day of Autumn Colours Week. :( I am going to do a double post tomorrow on the last day, like I did this spring. My own personal highlights will be the additional post.

Autumn Colours Week with Poppytalk

Good news this morning! Poppytalk announced their annual Autumn Colours Week on Friday afternoon. Of course, I'll be in the playing along in the Flickr pool.

Monday: Green
Tuesday: Yellow
Wednesday: Orange
Thursday: Red
Friday: Brown

The weather has shifted here in the Bay Area today. It's cold enough to wear a jacket outdoors and slippers indoors. I'm so motivated to get out there and shoot this week. Now that I've got the birthday party done, I know my shoulder is up to the task too. Phew!

Summer Colours Week with Poppytalk

Just when I was getting into the rhythm of an abbreviated summer blogging schedule, Poppytalk announces a Summer Colours Week! What's a photographing, blogging gal to do?!

Peonies print available here

I'm not sure if I'll participate each day but I couldn't resist today because I had a peonies image that I took recently and hadn't shared yet. Today is pink, Tuesday is yellow, Wednesday is green, Thursday is red & white (for Canada Day) and Friday is blue. Please comment if you participate as I'd love to see your photographs!

Here is the Flickr Pool for Summer Colours Week. Enjoy!

Spring Color Week, Faves!

Oh my, did I have an enjoyable day going through the entire Spring Colors Week pool, which is now filled with more than 2,000 images! Yes, I did look at every single page. Without further ado, here is a sampling of my faves...the rows correspond to each day (i.e. Monday/pink, top row; Tuesday/green, second row, etc.).

To see more of my favorites, because there are many more, click on the mosaic and you'll go straight through. Also I decided to post my little painting over on the Sweet Eventide FB page instead of in my photostream. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Spring Color Week, Poppytalk

Today is the last day of Spring Colors Week and it has been awesome. We're ending on a high note with one of my absolute favorite colors, robins egg blue.

I love color weeks because they push me creatively and get me out snapping on a daily basis. Also they get me into Flickr because believe it or not, I don't spend exorbitant amounts of time there. In light of that fact, I'm going to take a cue from our host Poppytalk and come back later today with highlights of my own.

P.S. I also made a tiny painting with this color but it's taking forever to dry (despite its size). So I will post it in my Flickr later and give you the link in my second post of the day.

Spring Color Week, Poppytalk

I must admit, purple was a very big challenge for me. My eye is not naturally drawn to purple and I do not have any purple objects that I would take the time to photograph for you. But I did finally find a few images I liked enough to post!

Luckily, lots of other people are out there submitting purple goodness of their own. Don't you love the purple hair Jan highlighted at Poppytalk?

Spring Color Week, Poppytalk

I spent the morning photowalking my fair town to capture a little yellow spring sunshine for everyone. Including me, I could use the cheer quite frankly. I have got a pretty bad case of the winter doldrums and have been feeling rather lethargic and uninspired. Blergh! In with the sunny yellows!

That is what I like to see: yellow leading all the way up to the sky where the master of all yellow lives. As for me, I'm going to pack a lunch right quick, pick up my Noodle and go swimming. (In the indoor pool of course). When I get home later, I'm going swimming in the other kind of pool, you know, the one Poppytalk built to be filled with lots of spring color.

100 Photos: No. 2

Before I get to my second Polaroid, do you see that new, darling, button in my left sidebar that says The Poppies? You can click on it to nominate your favorites in many handmade categories at Poppytalk and guess what? I have even been nominated under favourite photographer! Thank you sweet Lotta!

On to the other sweet stuff now, literally.

Chiclets

I picked up a package of Chiclets at my awesome car wash the other day. (I've mentioned it before). I gobbled them up in no time flat. Then I returned for more and shared a giggle with the cashier who loves them too. You have no idea how hard it was to save a few for a Polaroid. Ah, the sacrifices I make for my work! ;)

You don't see Chiclets everywhere. Did you know they are made in Colombia? Neither did I! Chiclets is the biggest gum brand in the Middle East. Check out this Chiclets advertisement from 1905. Read more about Chiclets here. Okay Chiclets 101 is over, class dismissed.

P.S. I do not know what that random mark is on the upper right side of my Polaroid. I hope it does not appear on every single exposure. Sadness (even though it's kind of organic looking and trippy).

Link Love aka Sweet Links

Today I thought I'd share a few things I have enjoyed lately in my web travels.

I can't stop thinking about this cranberry vinaigrette from Erin at fresh365. I am going to have to try making and bottling it soon.

I am enjoying a new blog, Lolalina. I love the name and the look of Laura's blog which is all about "discovering and living your sweet life from small, everyday pleasures to grand adventures."

I love these Photoshop magnets (via Jess at How About Orange). I think they are just so clever and I like them even though they're out of stock.

I loved finding out about the film project Make a World based on Ed Emberley's book. You can watch the teaser like I did and then keep up with them on Twitter and Facebook.

I adore this card from two guitars. Their entire shop is bursting with wonderful things. The Portland art scene is mind boggling to me. Scott ships his work in biodegradable plastic bags, how cool is that? Thanks to Poppytalk for the introduction to this fine artist.

I just found out that I won this amazing Amala giveaway on Bliss. I am in a state of happy shock, this is not normal for me! I can't wait to try their products.

Finally, last night I fell head over heels in love with this photo from Abby. I don't have permission to put it up on the blog yet but if she says yes, I will come back and edit the post. Until then, please do click on it! {Thanks Abby!} It is a very serene image and brings me peace during a tumultuous week with the Noodle. Abby is having a sale right now in her Etsy shop and she is also in Portland. See what I mean? It is non-stop inspiration coming from the PNW. I could do weeks of posts just on art out of PDX.

Okay that's it for now. There is so much holiday talk around the blogosphere, I guess I needed a little diversion even though I enjoy all of that too.

Holiday Talk + Shop Update

This week my Noodle's school is closed for Thanksgiving break so my computer time is going to be less than normal. With the holidays' imminent arrival this week, it seems like a nice time to encourage everyone to shop locally and buy handmade this season.

To prepare for shopping season, I have been updating my shop after quite a hiatus. I plan to continue adding items this week in preparation for the upcoming holiday season, including a 2010 photo calendar called Blossoms. Here are my newest listings.

Row 2: MistyApothecary

On Wednesday at 5 p.m. I will be announcing my Black Friday deals which will be available starting at midnight on Thanksgiving Day. Here is a little advanced shopping tip for Etsy, type "etsyfreeshipping" into the search box on the main page to see items being offered with free shipping by sellers. :)

Finally, during the month of December, I am planning a blogging advent calendar of sorts with tips from my new excellent book, I'm Dreaming of a Green Christmas by Anna Getty.

Autumn Colour Week, Friday :: Red

I had an errand to run in San Francisco this morning, so I brought my camera along in search of red. I found a lot of it around, although nothing is particularly referring to autumn. But it is San Francisco on an autumn day so there you go.

This is some of what I saw all around Chestnut Street in the Marina. It was a very warm day in the City, I was sweltering in a sweater and jeans. Parking and traffic were a challenge today but in the end, I landed a spot across the street from my beloved Kara's.

Don't forget to check out Poppytalk's daily entry and their pool of colour. Look at this upcycled train case -- I have one so similar!
